Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder Announces Initiative To Combat Violence

In the wake of recent shooting deaths, Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder has announced plans to get more kids into summer and night-time programming. So far $35,000 has been raised from local businesses to help in the effort.

In an interview with NPR Illinois on Monday, Langfelder said Springfield has long dealt with gang violence, and that better access to extra curricular activities and mentors for youth is needed. Tune in:
