Spirituality Series: 'Sacred Conversations On Race' Reflections

Rachel Otwell
Members of the panel: Jim Dixon, Shatriya Smith (in back) & Aretha Thompson

Since this spring, four churches and congregations in Springfield have met to hold a series of events titled 'Sacred Conversations on Race + Action.' The events were put on by the Faith Coalition for the Common Good.

The idea was to have difficult but meaningful dialogue between churches, many of which are self-segregated by race, in hopes of better understanding each other and building stronger communities. NPR Illinois hosted its own panel featuring some of those who took part; including VP of the Faith Coalition, Jim Dixon, Marian Dionne, Shatriya Smith and Aretha Thompson. Tune in to hear some of their personal stories and reflections about the program:

This round-table discussion was hosted by co-hosts of NPR Illinois' spirituality podcast, Heartland.
