The Scene was our Illinois arts & culture podcast through 2017. Rachel Otwell curated the podcast which provided full-length stories and follow-ups, links to other reports, and conversations with you.This podcast contained a range of stories from the world of arts & culture, from visual art to Springfield's DIY music scene, to profiles of interesting local characters. The podcast was about what makes artists tick, and the diverse culture that exists within our community.

Gather around, let us sing you a tune. Well, Arlin Peebles will play you one anyway. He's our guest of the week and will be playing a show in Springfield on Friday night. He also helps run the new multimedia venue called 'The Studio.' We have lots to tell you about, so let's get started:

Events discussed this week include:

  • Friday night is the annual fundraiser for the Phoenix Center... More info here. They will also have a series of paranormal investigations in their century-old building during the last week of Oct. & on Oct. 23rd. More info here.
  • Friday night Arlin Peebles, Yairms, Animals With Human Names, & Alhhla play an eclectic show at the Black Sheep. More info here.
  • A night of high energy music including surf rock and rockabilly will be going down at Bar None on Friday night. More info here.
  • The Rocky Horror Picture show will be playing at the Art Theatre Co-Op in Champaign Oct. 16th - 23rd. Info here.
  • There will be an art exhibit and reception on Saturday. Info here.
  • The Studio will have an event called "Ghost Stories" on Friday the 23rd. Info here.
  • US Congressman and civil rights leader John Lewis will be in Springfield on Monday to talk about his graphic novels, the March series. The event is open to the public, but tickets are needed. More info here.
