The Players: U.S. Senate Candidate Andrea Zopp

Hannah Meisel

Amanda Vinicky hosts The Players, your look into who's who in Illinois politics and what they are up to. This week, she talks with a candidate for the U.S. Senate.

Democrats looking to pick up seats in the U.S. Senate have their hopes pinned on Illinois.

Illinois' junior Senator, Republican Mark Kirk, is seen a vulnerable; he's got a primary challenge of his own, but he's way out in front on the cash race, and has the party's backing.

Democrats? They're more split.

Much of the establishment's behind Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth. The State Senate President, John Cullerton, backs one of his members -- State Sen. Napoleon Harris.

And then there's Andrea Zopp. She's an attorney and former head of the Chicago Urban League.

Among the topics discussed, she tells us her thoughts on whether or not Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel needs to resign in the wake of a controversial police shooting involving a white officer and a 16 year old black teen, LaQuan McDonald.

Amanda Vinicky moved to Chicago Tonight on WTTW-TV PBS in 2017.
