Performance/Interview With Jessica Knight Of Looming

Ada Jay
Jessica Knight

Much like the music she helps create, Jessica Knight is an artist who defies simple labeling. As vocalist, lyricist and bassist for the band Looming, she draws inspiration from a variety of source material. She came of age musically in the Southtown Springfield scene, centered around Black Sheep venue and a punk DIY ethos.

The Springfield native most recently called Austin, Texas home. She's now on tourwith Cassie Staub, fellow Looming band member. Some Looming members live in Springfield, others near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The band was picked up by indie label No Sleep Records and has done lots of touring over the past few years.

During this interview Knight breaks some news, telling us she plans to move with the rest of the band to the Pittsburgh area soon, and that the new record will be released in late September with a show in Springfield, "Because we feel like this is home, and that's the way it needs to happen." Tune in to hear her play some songs in studio; we also talk pop music, depression, making a song for a web seriescentered on transgender characters, and much more.

Listen to the songs she performed in our studio in their entirety, here:
