NPR's Michael Goldfarb reports from London that three foreign tourists who had been kidnapped in southern Yemen were killed today. Other hostages, including an American, were reported wounded. Early reports suggested the hostages were killed in a shoot-out between their captors and Yemeni security forces. However, Yemeni officials said the kidnappers began killing the tourists before the security forces moved in. Kidnappings are frequent in Yemen, but these are the first fatalities in recent memory.
