Journalist Nina Burleigh At Brookens

Every day brings news about the Middle East, and its complex political, religious and economic systems.

To help make sense of ISIS, jihad and Middle Eastern culture, Newsweek correspondent and University of Illinois Springfield Public Affairs Reporting program graduate Nina Burleigh is coming to Springfield for a free Friends of Brookens Library talk, on Tuesday, June 23, at 7 p.m. at the UIS Student Theater

WUIS's Amanda Vinicky spoke with Burleigh about her experience covering Illinois government, her travels to the Middle East, and how being a descendent of an Assyrian Christian Iraqi immigrant has impacted her career.

Here's an extended version of that conversation.

Amanda Vinicky moved to Chicago Tonight on WTTW-TV PBS in 2017.
