Glenwood Grad Named New UIS Softball Coach

UIS

The University of Illinois Springfield has announced Shannon Nicholson will be the school's new softball coach.

Nicholson is from Chatham.  She spent the past six years at Illinois State, most recently as the pitching coach there.

“Being a head coach at such a great Institution is a true privilege and I can’t wait to get started," Nicholson said in a news release.

Nicholson had 62 wins in her career at ISU, which is the 4th most in that school's history.  In her senior season, Nicholson became just the second female student-athlete in ISU history to be named the Illinois State Female Student-Athlete and Female Athlete of the Year in the same academic year.

She also played professional ball with the  Akron Racers in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league in 2008.

Her career at Glenwood was just as impressive.  She was a three-time Central 8 Softball Player of theYear and a three-time honoree to the Illinois High School All-State team. She also owns the IHSA’s record for lowest ERA in a season (0.00) in 2001.
