Business Report: Farmer's Market Attendance; Downtown Renovation Project; Springfield App Developer

SJ-R

Sean Crawford talks with the State Journal-Register Business Editor Tim Landis.

This week:

* DOWNTOWN PROJECT: Recent opening of Vele Italian themed restaurant on ground floor of Ferguson building is first new tenant after more than five years of construction on trio of buildings at Sixth and Monroe; completion of estimated $8 million project now hinges on federal historic tax credits, which have turned out to be a lot more complicated than the developer thought.

* OLD CAPITOL FARMERS MARKET; First-ever survey showed attendance way higher than thought, which could mean more money for things like federal funding of SNAP purchases for low-income households.

* SENSIBLE INNOVATIONS: Founder Rasha Said of Springfield selected for Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas; she created a wayfinding app for visually impaired that relies on a system of beacons and smartphones that provide audio wayfinding in schools, public transit, government buildings etc...her next target is retail.
