99th GOP House Primary Candidate: Rep. Sara Wojcicki Jimenez

ilga.gov

Representative Sara Wojcicki has only been in office for a few months.

But she's already facing her first election as a state lawmaker. She's one of two Republicans vying for their party's nomination in the 99th House District in central Illinois.  Wojcicki Jimenez and attorney Kent Gray, both of Springfield, face off March 15.

Wojcicki Jimenez was appointed last fall, after longtime Rep. Raymond Poe left to become Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture.  Her appointment had the backing of Gov. Bruce Rauner.

Prior to her current role, Wojcicki Jimenez served as Chief of Staff to First Lady Diana Rauner.  She's also been a spokesperson for Republicans and Democrats in state government.  And, before that time, she worked as a journalist with WICS TV in Springfield.

During a sit down interview at the NPR Illinois studios, she talked about initiatives she supports.  She also talked about some controversial votes she has taken during her brief tenure in office.

NPR Illinois has reached out to Kent Gray for a candidate interview.  He has not responded with an available time.

The primary election day is March 15.
